Ballet 1

Beginners

We will be learning the basics and fundamental techniques required to execute the movements in ballet with precision. We will start with a warm up, then barre exercises before moving into the center to further test our ability. This class is for those seeking to learn how to dance ballet in a warm and inviting environment taught by a professional with a wholistic approach.

Saturdays: The above program and this class is geared towards building skills and participation in the year end performance, where we take what we have learned in the classroom to the stage!

A class that is user-friendly and paced to bring ballet to the every body.


Ballet 2

Intermediate

This class is designed for dancers that have had a number of years of experience to continue their studies or dancers who may have stopped dancing for a while and are looking to pick it back up. It is also for those ready to move on from the beginner level and are looking to further their skills in ballet. We will start with a warm up, then to the barre which consists of traditional exercises before carrying these concepts from the barre to the centre.

Saturday: The above program and the class performs in a year end dance recital where we take what we have learned in the studio and turn it into live art for our audience.


Ballet 3 (Sat) Ballet Open (Tues)

Advanced & Inter/Advanced

This class is designed for dancers that have had significant experience in ballet & are working with a body that is has a decent level of fitness. We will start with a warm up, then to the barre which consists of traditional exercises at an advanced level coordinating upper & lower body, musicality & grace. Finally these concepts will move to the centre to explore combinations & practice more advanced techniques.

Saturday: Advanced. This class performs in a year end dance recital thus we will take what we have learned in the studio and turn it into live art for our audience.

Tuesday: Inter/Advanced. No performance & prerequisite for Pre-Pointe class


Pre-Pointe

Inter/Advanced

This class is meant to prepare the dancers body for pointe dancing. This class is preparatory only and the student is expected to focus on strengthening their ankles and bodies. Pointe shoes are not to be bought or worn until instructed by the instructor only. Pointe shoes may not be worn by a student for 1-2 years depending on the individual needs of the dancer.

Pre-requisites: Must have had at least 5 years of ballet and be enrolled in at least two ballet classes per week. Advancement onto pointe shoes is by instructor’s approval only. This class is for ballet dancers that are very focused as this type of dance can be dangerous if the student is not ready to follow detailed instructions from the teacher.

Equipment needed for the first day of classes is as follows: a thick/strong theraband, an old hand/kitchen towel, a tennis ball and a notebook with a pen.


Ballet Barre

Some Experience Required

his class utilizes all of the foundational techniques of ballet barre exercises to build strength, flexibility & deepen the mind body connection which lays at the core of the classical dance disciplines. Whether to increase &/or sustain your dance fitness, this class asks that folks have some previous experience so the class can explore beyond a beginner framework.

What to Bring

Your dancing body just as it is, an open mind and a refillable water bottle. As an adult school there is no uniform & only one required item - ballet slippers. Canvas or leather? Your choice and may we recommend, local store, Toes n Taps on Cook Street. Ballet is about creating lines so best to wear layers that allow for the teacher to see your lines. The range classic tights & leotard with chiffon skirt all the way to form fitting sweats & yoga gear. You get to create a look that inspires you.
